Personal Commitments Assessment
Be sure you answer both Part 1 and Part 2 of this assignment before submitting.
Part 1
After reading Chapter 2 in the textbook and the lecture for this topic, write a 2-3 sentence answer to each of the six questions that form the basic components or personal commitments for your worldview. Answer the questions about your own beliefs in your own words, not what you think the Christian worldview believes. Keep this worksheet intact, and only add your answers under each question.
- What is your belief about ultimate reality?
- I do not think that there is any person or power out there that underlines the universe. I think there might be something supernatural out there however. I am just not sure what, and I do not think it is one person or thing.
- What is your belief about the nature of the universe?
- It is hard to believe if the world is supernatural or not. I do not believe either way because there is no way to truly know. I do think it could be possible however, since are world is so orderly.
- What is your belief about human nature and the afterlife?
I believe that afterlife that your souls and spirits may stay alive. I think that our spirits stay around where we want them to. I do not believe necessarily that people just go to heaven or hell.
- What is your belief about knowledge?
- My belief about knowledge is that I do not think any source is reliable. I do not think that anyone will ever know the truth. It is all what each individual person believes in themselves.
- What is your basis of ethics?
- My basis of ethics is to always have manners and respect for everyone. I was raised to always have good manners. Also, the most important thing to me is having integrity. Always do the right thing when no one else is looking and to treat people how you want to be treated.
- What is your purpose?
- My purpose is to live a happy life. I want to make a good difference on all the people that I have crossed paths with. My purpose is to spread love and happiness.
Part 2
Answer the following two questions with a 250-400 word response for each.
- Your answers to the questions in Part 1 form the basis of your worldview. Now that you have articulated your worldview, evaluate it according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and the lecture. Can you live your worldview out in the world as we know it? Why or why not?
- It is hard to evaluate my worldview according to the practical test described in Chapter 2 because I am still learning exactly what I believe in and not. The practical test looks at the workability and practical value in the most important part of our lives. The major issues that occur in this test are people’s happiness and satisfaction. I think that it is hard to live in our own worldview out in the world as it is right now. I believe so because we run into so many challenges in life where we automatically look somewhere else besides our worldview. I think that I am guilty of doing this. When things get rough in life, I never tend to think to turn to my worldview, I always turn to other things. After reading over the practical test and seeing how true it can be, it has made me realize I might need to change my worldview. Or maybe I just have never truly found what my worldview is. I think a lot of people change their worldviews in this world because once they realize it is not satisfactory they start doing what they feel is right, which may lead to another worldview they never even realized.
- Reflect on your current understanding of the Christian faith. In other words, what is the essence of the Christian worldview? How does one become a Christian?
- My current understanding of Christian faith is that they believe in Jesus, God’s son. Christians put their faith into Jesus. They rely on the strength of him and for him to guide them instead of themselves. Christians believe in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead by the Holy Spirit. Jesus died on the cross for everyone else’s sins. In Christianity they only believe in one God, and it is the largest religion in the world. Christians believe that people that have sinned can be saved by God, and promised eternal life. The first step to become a Christian is to learn about. We need to realize that we all have sinned and need a savior, at that time he is born again. Realizing that you have sinned and so has everyone else in this world is a major step in Christianity. Just because you have sinned does not make you a bad person, you just have to realize why you did it and what the right answer is instead. Also, make sure that you learn from your mistakes. The next step is to realize that Jesus died on the cross to save you from your sins and to give us eternal life. Becoming a Christian you always need to have faith in Jesus, no matter what. Next, pray. It is a way to communicate with God. Use words that come from your heart when you talk to him. Lastly, never doubt Christianity or Jesus.
