SMART Goals Worksheet
Instructions: Identify a personal goal, an academic goal, and a professional goal.
1. On the Goal line, write each of your three goals. Each goal should reflect your purpose for advancing your education at GCU, your purpose in life, and however you define your “purpose.”
2. Next, verify that each of your goals is a SMART goal. The goal characteristics, Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely, are listed in the left column. Identify how each SMART characteristic is included in your goals. Complete all the columns in the worksheet.
3. Identify two main discoveries you made about how you spend your time – based on the 3-day sample from the Topic 1 Time-Monitoring Worksheet. Recopy them on this worksheet. Also, note what you spent more and/or less time doing than you thought you would. Write these also. Below is an example of one area (personal goal) completed; please use this as a guide to fill out the entire chart for all areas: personal, academic, and professional goals.

Goal
My personal goal is to lose 20 pounds in the next 3 months. I will need to eat healthy meals and exercise 3 times per week.
Specific
This is a specific goal because it has a measureable objective and is specific in the end result.
20 pounds is specific as is the goal for eating healthy meals and exercising.
Measurable
This goal is measurable because when I lose 20 pounds, I know I will have attained my goal. I will do a ‘weigh-in’ each Tuesday morning.
Attainable
This goal is attainable because I am able to exercise before work at least 3 days per week.
Realistic
This goal is realistic because I have the time available in the mornings. Also, to lose 20 pounds in 3 months means I only have to lose 1.5 pounds per week!
Timely
This goal has a time component that gives me adequate time to reach the goal. I will reach this goal in 3 months checking and logging progress each week.
Main Discoveries
My main discovery from the Time Monitoring Worksheet was that I spend too much time on social media. I noticed that on all three days, I spent over an hour each day checking Facebook, email, and other online searching.
Another discovery I made from analyzing three days was that I still do a number of chores around the house that my teenaged sons could help out with. This will give them more responsibility and it will free up some time for my schoolwork.
More/Less Time Than Thought
Over the days I spent tracking my time, I noticed that I spent less time than I thought on my academic reading and studying. I also noticed early in week, I tend to procrastinate and push assignments and posts to the end of the week. While this may work in some classes, I know some of my later classes will be much harder and I will need to better manage my time. If I build this habit now, I know I will be successful in all of my classes.

Personal Accountability Plan
Instructions: Making a time management plan that helps achieve your goals is relatively easy. Sticking to the plan is the difficult part. That is why the Personal Accountability Plan is so important.
- To help you be personally accountable for your goals, you will apply four actions, based on your Time Monitoring and Goal Setting assignment.
- Look at the first action, “Change my time management plan.” To complete the plan, you must identify an “Action Plan,” that is, a plan for implementing the action – for each of your three goals. Below is an example of one of the questions answered in the action plan; please use this as a guide to fill out the entire chart.
