Research children’s health issues, focusing on environmental factors and links to poverty. The assessment of environmental processes includes agents and factors that predispose communities and populations to injury, illness, and death. What correlations did your research show between environmental and health issues in the school-aged child? Make sure to include references to the article(s) you consulted.
School-aged children that are raised in poverty are predisposed to more childhood illnesses that those children in affluent communities. Children living in povert are more likely to be malnourished, some are too small for their age and others can be obese, which can aso be a sign of malnourishment. Children from poor backgrounds are more commonly afftected by infections (respiratory infections and gastrointestinal), have a general ill health anemia, and nutritional deficiencies and dental caries. Children liviing in low socioeconomic communities may not have safe playgrounds, parks or organized sports for children and chronic diseases like high blood pressure can be diagnosed at early ages.
Today, 1 in 5 (about 15.5 million) children live in poverty in the U.S.—23% are under age five. The widest reach we have for kids under the age of five is through pediatricians. Poor children are less likely to participate in organized activities and often do not have enough supplies or raeding materials at home. Living in a home that is not safe and in a dangerous neighborhood puts children at greater risk of accidents.
