How can a therapist determine if a child’s presenting issue can be accounted for based on typical development (e.g., Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, Erik Erikson’s psychosocial stages) or determine that the issue is pathological in nature? Provide at least one specific example in your response.

ANS:

A therapist is better placed to diagnose if a child may be presenting an issue which may harbor pathological harm to the child’s developmental schematics through the application of Piaget’s theoretical paradigm explaining g cognitive maturity in four particular stages (Crain, 2015). Jean designed a cognitive theory which contains four distinct stages each with its own significance to the achievement of cognizance at large (Crain, 2015). A therapist may diagnose a pathology in a child if the child fails to present qualities as advertised of the inherent stage befitting of his/her age.
