  • Identify the connection between a person’s attempt to solve a problem and the negative outcomes caused by the attempt.Once identified, steps can be taken to overcome them. The sole focus is on the problems determined and defined by the client(s), not identifying different problems that may be present(Fauchier and Margolin, 2004, para. 11-12).
  • Reduce the person’s attempts to solve the problem(s) that are resulting in negative outcomes, and increase the tolerance of others involved (Fauchier and Margolin, 2004, para. 11-12).

Behavioral

Ivan Pavlov

Is focused on the behavior of human beings and aims at eradicating maladaptive or unwanted behavior. This therapy is used for people with mental health conditions or behavioral problems that involve behavior that is unwanted(Clark & Christopher, 1997, para.5)
Work best for health conditions of the brain that lead to unwanted behavior. Also removes any form of behavior’s reinforcement
(Clark & Christopher, 1997, para.3).

Cognitive Behavioral

Based on the idea that the manner in which we think (cognition), how people feel (emotion) and the manner in which they act (Behaviour) all interact together. In a more particular manner, people’s thought determine their behavior and their feelings (McLeod,2008, para. 2)
To help people to become aware of times when they make interpretations that are negative as well as of behavioral patterns that cause reinforcement of thinking that is distorted

Integrated Behavioral

A therapy that is manual guided and focuses on disorders to do with substance use and posttraumatic stress (Cordova and Eldridge,2000, para. 1)

Emotion Focused

Sue Johnson
(Yalom, 2011, para. 4)
Is an intervention that is based on adult love’s scientific study as well as the process of bonding in couples. Holds that emotional contact is what makes people healthier as well as the need for one to feel safe when connecting with others (Yalom, 2011, para. 6)
Addresses distress in relationships that are intimate for adults. Its strategies are also used in therapy for families to help the members’ link and improve their attachment emotionally (Yalom, 2011, para. 2).

Family Systems

Dr. Murray Bowen
(Courtois and Ford, 2009, para. 4).
There is no possibility of individuals to be understood when in isolation from others, but instead can be understood when as part of their family because the family is an emotional unit
(Courtois and Ford, 2009, para. 1).
Helping families that experience conflict within their units as well as seeking assistance that is professional to address the conflict. Generally help individuals in resolving their problems in their family units’ context where there is a likelihood of many issues beginning (Courtois and Ford, 2009, para. 7).

Solution Focused

Steve de shazer and Insoo Kim Berg
(Iverson,2002, para.5)
Puts focus on the present and future circumstances of a person as well as goals instead of experiences from the past
(Iverson,2002, para.4)
