The debate over if we should keep the electoral college or go to straight popular vote has been going on and being discussed for years. In my opinion, I am not really sure what the right thing to do is, I lean toward both ways for different reasons. The electoral college is when each state is given a certain amount of electors based on the number of congress. “The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President (National Archives and Records Administration, 2015).” If we went to straight popular vote, everyone would feel like they had a direct say and impact on who was becoming President. In my opinion, I think that both would work in the United States and I might like to see the popular vote tried out a few times.
