Introduction.
The armed forces in a nation as an administrative organization play a decisive role in promoting and increasing the security of the people nationally. As an organization, the armed forces are significantly not immune in regard to the changing and evolving force shaping the entire globe. Today, the world is increasingly evolving in different aspects that necessitate changes in the armed forces in order to stay updated with the evolving world, thus promoting increased security(Manulis et al., 2020). The main aim of the paper is to evaluate the relevant forces leading to changes in the organization of armed forces, assess the central responses, and recommend a mission for change in regard to adopting different evolved means. My main organization for the assessment is the DOD in the United States.
Armed Force organization
The United States DoD is a governmental agency that is mainly accountable for the coordination and supervision of different functions and authorities in regard to national security and armed forces. The DoD in the armed forces is one of the greatest and most difficult organizations globally, which mainly consists of different branches like the Army, Marine, Navy, and Space forces. The mission of the organization is to offer military forces with ability to deter war and make certain of increased state security. The mission primarily involves the maintenance of military preparedness, developing strategic skills, and promoting international state stability through collaboration and alliances. The goal of the organization is safeguarding the state and its needs, both internationally and locally.
There are different stakeholders involved, such as the military personnel, which includes the daily service duty members, national guards, and reservists. The military personnel are the stakeholders who are mainly at the main front line, meeting the mission of the organization and operating different tasks in relation to defense at a national level. Civilian employees are other stakeholders in the organization who mainly contribute to different functions like logistics, intelligence, and administration, thus offering support to the operations of the forces. Policymakers are also involved in the organization, such as the state president, congress members, and defense secretary, who are engaged in making decisions in regard to the state defense policies, budgets, and priorities. The general public is the other stakeholders in the organization that help to improve state security.
External and Internal Forces.
Some of the external forces driving organizational changes for the armed forces include the advancement in technology and changes in geopolitics. The increasingly advancing sector of technology like AI, cyber abilities, and unmanned systems are leading to the alteration of modern warfare dynamics. Advancements in artificial intelligence are enhancing the process of decision-making and abilities of cyber settings that are becoming critical in defensive and offensive tasks or operations(Li & Liu, 2021). Therefore, unmanned systems lead to a shift in the dynamics of disputes by offering autonomous and remote abilities to enemies of national security. In addition, the changes in the dynamics of geopolitical and evolving threats and changing partnerships are developing unpredictable and challenging internal environments of security(Myrick, 2021). Therefore, there is a need for the armed forces to be adaptable and agile in regard to navigating the uncertainties in geopolitical changes, responding effectively to evolving threats, and efficiently partnering with global partners in addressing common challenges of security.
On the other hand, some of the internal forces include the changes in demographics, in which the armed forces are significantly facing demographic changes, featured by the aging force, and the need to maintain and attract a more diversified talent pool. This implies that when older military personnel have come to retirement, there is a need to replace them with young talent while promoting inclusivity with the value of diversity and leveraging a wider range of perspectives and skills. In addition, constraints in budgetary constraints influence the allocation of resources, which necessitates the creation of effective and cost-efficient strategies that make certain that crucial abilities are enhanced and retained(Myrick, 2021). The organization needs to prioritize different investments, optimize the utilization of resources, and evaluate the innovative mechanisms of funding in order to meet the needs of evolving security.
Impact on Organization Viability.
The forces influence the viability of the organization by challenging past doctrines due to advancing technology and changes in geopolitics, thus requiring the development of and demand for an adaptable approach to the resolution of security disputes. In addition, the forces impact the viability of the organization due to the need for new sets of skills with an enacted development program that increases expertise in AI, cyber warfare, and uncrewed system operation, making certain that the armed forces are proficient with advancing technologies. Furthermore, the change in geopolitical demands increased collaboration between various branches, which influences the viability of the organization with the need to address the threats efficiently.
Force of Technological Advancement.
Advancement in technology signifies a driving force necessitating a comprehensive evaluation of the practices in existence due to different issues that are created, such as vulnerabilities in cybersecurity. This implies that the advancement in technology, like advancing AI, cloud computing, and interconnected systems of communication, is leading to the introduction of different vulnerabilities to evolving cyber threats. The breaching of cybersecurity is leading to the compromising of military information that is sensitive, disrupting networks of communication and undermining the entire operational integrity(Li & Liu, 2021). In addition, the increased evolution and advancement of technology necessitates the need for continuous development training for the personnel to make certain of increased proficiency in the operation and adaptation of advanced systems. Thus, the lack of advancement in skills hinders the efficient use of improved systems in national security.
Steps needed to respond to this driving force.
The main steps that are required by the organization in responding to the force of advancing technologies influencing national security through cyber vulnerabilities include:
Implementing a dedicated force that will evaluate the evolving technologies and potential of application within the organization.
Invest mainly in the development program to make certain that military personnel are increasingly aware of the utilization of advanced technologies.
Encourage collaboration with different sectors to leverage advanced innovations in technology.
Creates a process of procurement that is flexible in adapting and integrating advancing technologies.
Employee’s Response.
The response of employees is important in responding to the forces of advancing technologies. The employees might have fears about integrating the advanced technologies due to the loss of their duties, thus negatively responding to the changes. Therefore, there is a need for leaders to effectively communicate the main objective of the proposed changes, which is not replacing but increasing their capabilities in national security. In addition, some of the employees might resist the proposed changes due to the fear of increasing their apprehensions in workload due to the introduction of advanced technologies(Manulis et al., 2020). This necessitates the leaders to precisely outline the resources and steps investing in offering significant development training to the employees. The leaders need to demonstrate increased dedication in managing effective changes to the adoption of the evolving technology that will make certain of the increased efficiency.
Vision for change.
The vision for change in alignment with the mission of the organization is creating a technologically evolved and adaptive organization of the armed forces that will quickly and efficiently help in addressing the threats linked to the advancing technologies in the 21st century. The vision is mainly focused on the leverage of advancement, enhancing partnership and collaboration, as well as maintaining the armed forces’ readiness for the increased vulnerabilities causing threats to national security.I will present the vision to the internal stakeholders of the organization through a profound plan of communication such as meetings, development training programs, and informational resources through internal organizational audits(Ahlstrom et al., 2020). The fundamental component of my presentation is to emphasize the beneficial influence on national security and expertise development changes for military personnel.
Assistance and Considerations to Stakeholders.
The vision is significantly expected to provide adequate support to the internal stakeholders by highlighting its profound alignment with the mission of the organization, presenting the potential for improved effectiveness in driving national security. In addition, the vision will emphasize the significance of evolving and staying ahead of the globally changing landscapes in order to improve and maintain increased national security(Manulis et al., 2020). The potential stakeholders’ considerations include the issues of displacement of jobs, privacy concerns in regard to the advanced technologies, and criticism of the ease of implementation. However, I will respond to the consideration through a proactive approach that mainly involves increased transparency in communication and utilizing positive feedback in the plan of implementation, thus addressing the concerns.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, the organization of armed forces is facing different dynamic forces in the national security sector that necessitate the adoption of a proactive approach. Therefore, acknowledging the main influences of the advancement in technology and implementing a vision for change will help the organization position itself effectively in the evolving technological era, thus maintaining national security. The success of the change is based on the effectiveness of leadership, involvement of the stakeholders, and dedication to progressive improvements.
