Homework can be a source of stress and frustration for many kids, but with the right help and support it doesn’t have to be. Here are five tips to make homework time easier for your child and create a stress-free environment for them to get their homework assignments done.
Set Up a Designated Work Area.
It’s important to have a designated spot in the house where your child can feel comfortable and focused while they work. Assign a desk or table that is free of distractions, with adequate lighting and minimal clutter. Put together a homework supplies kit so everything they need is within arm’s reach. Depending on their age, you may also want to set up a computer or laptop in this space for them to use.
Create a Routine and Stick to It.
Having a consistent routine while completing homework is essential to the success of your child. Establish daily goals and have your child allocate a certain amount of time to each task. Determine when their study sessions will begin and end with clear starting and stopping times to maximize efficiency. Help them identify a timeframe which allows them to break up their assignments into manageable pieces, reducing overwhelm.
Break Tasks into Smaller Chunks.
Breaking down homework into smaller tasks makes it easier for your child to complete their assignments. It also eliminates the feeling of being overwhelmed and facilitates better focus.
