Q.1
Since special educator is a person who works with children with disabilities. The main role of the special educator is to assist children with disabilities achieve their highest potential and strive to progress beyond their limitations (Murawski & Spencer, 2011). They do so by giving special instructions as well as tools needed in order to maximize success. The conflict of the special educator arises due to the belief that, special educator only focuses on teaching life skills and basic literary. Because of this belief, special educator feels that there are not experts in the content-area. Also, because they are expected to give instructions and guidance to the general educator, they feel that he or she is a helper teacher. This therefore causes conflict in the special educator.
Q.2
In a classroom setting, it is important for the co-teachers to establish a plan for communicating effectively. Effective communication fosters understanding of one another as well as helps in conflict resolution (Hall, Meyer & Rose, 2012). The first step in communicating effectively with the co-teacher is through establishing a rapport. During the time of the meeting, it is important to first build a relationship. Establishing a relationship is important step in communication since it will help in knowing one another. Knowing one’s profile will help in finding a good ways of communicating with him. When there is good relationship between the co-teachers, there will be clear communication. Happiness must always be shown when talking to the other teachers. After, establishing a rapport, the next thing is to ask the teacher what he thinks about the co-teaching. This will therefore helps in documenting his responses. After his responses, I will give the teacher my suggestion about the co-teaching plan and the importance of using this strategy in the classroom. This will therefore enable us to discuss on how co-teaching will be conducted as well as coming up with a co-teaching plan. According to Fiedler (2000), co-teaching helps the students with varied disability to achieve their goals through giving them the necessary instructions and guidance that meets their needs.
During the meeting, all the responses given in the discussion will be documented in a minute book. Full plan of the co-teaching should be documented in the book including the time and day of the meeting. In the book, a schedule for the future meeting will be documented also. Documenting exact dates of the future meeting will be important since meetings will be important in re-evaluating the progress of the co-teaching. Future meetings will also be important in making any changes in the co-teaching plan.
