1. Jane started a new job as a medical receptionist. On her first day; she had orientation for new employees. Once she arrived to work the next day, she realized that she was not prepared for the fast-paced healthcare clinic. By lunchtime, she felt like she was not cut out for this job. She felt under skilled and under challenged to meet the healthcare clinic’s goals. On her way to lunch, Mary, one of her co-workers, asked to her have lunch with her. During the lunch break, Mary started talking about their manager Mrs. Blue. Mary told Jane that Mrs. Blue was in trouble with her superiors. Mary also told Jane that Jim, the computer programmer, spreads rumors and you could not trust him. Then Mary tells Jane that Jessica, the nurse, was an alcoholic and she frequently took sips from the whisky bottle at her desk. Mary asked Jane to meet her for supper after work. She told Jane that "once you come to see how screwed up everyone is around here and get the feel for this healthcare clinic, then you will be fine." a. Why would Mary be so friendly towards Jane? b. Just before Sue went home from her job as a medical records clerk, the medical records manager informed her that she would be taking off the next two weeks, and that she was appointing Sue to take her place starting on Monday. Although Sue has more seniority than the other employees have and is an excellent medical records clerk, she does not feel confident in the role of the medical record manager’s job. Sue doesn’t feel comfortable dealing with the patients, supervising her co-workers, and handling conflicts that may arise between employees. Sue feels that she will fail at being able to fill her manager’s shoes. Sue overhears some of her co-workers starting to whisper that they cannot believe that the manager would put her in charge. a.
