Review the vignettes located in the topic five materials and then diagnose Robin and Becky with a psychotic disorder. What are the justifications for your diagnosis? Include differential diagnoses that were considered and discarded.

ANS:

Psychotic disorders otherwise referred to as psychosis are serious mental illnesses. They interfere with the normal thinking process of a patient in addition to the way patients perceive things. The most common symptoms of psychosis in patients include and may not be limited to delusions, hallucinations, and a disorderly thought pattern (Gaebel and Zielasek 9). Delusions are false beliefs held by patients in relation to the things around them. A patient thus usually perceives things falsely and believes in them. Such things include a patient believing that they received text messages from television sets. As such, Robin, based on the explanations above, suffers from psychosis, as she experiences delusions. She explained that the television spoke to her via text, something impossible in the real world. The second most symptom of psychosis in a patient is hallucinating (Gaebel and Zielasek 9). This is imagining things that do not exist in the real world. Such is the situation Becky finds herself in imagining profound love by her boss and taking it as the real truth. She therefore has psychosis or suffers from a mental disorder.
