PCN 644 Topic 3 DQ 1
Discuss the importance of using the MMPI-2-RF when assessing the emotional status of a client. Can the MMPI-2-RF be useful in assessing mental status as well? Why or why not? Provide specific examples to support your position.
The MMPI-2-RF places demoralization as a new scale and different from all others. Even though this does not make the MMPI-2-RF more accurate, it does aid in the identification of convergent and discriminately essential items for each of the clinical scales. Also, the MMPI-2-RF is more precise than before after demoralization has been removed from the restructured clinical scales. The increase in clarity is due to the vital basis of the components of each scale becoming evident. The MMPI-2-RF is a more effective assessment tool compared to its predecessors. This increase in effectiveness is because, the restructured clinical scales require fewer items that have improved reliability, better convergence and considerable improvement of discriminative validity, and reduced inter-correlation (Brown, 2009). The MMPI-2-RF can be used to assess the mental status because it measures some symptoms critically considered when determining mental health. For example, the MMPI-2-RF can be used to measure the intensity of illnesses such as schizophrenia, paranoia, depression, and hypomania (Framingham, 2016), which can be used to assess mental status.
