Personality Assessment
The collection of theories on personality is hypothesis regarding the behavior type of individuals that include organizing knowledge about the person and predict a person’s behavior. Jung and Gardner put forward theories of an individual identity that offer a few likeness and differences. Although they both portray the behavior by which individuals act as far as their learning strategies, they vary in a few regions. Gardner findings led to six types of intelligence out of nine that relate to an individual intelligence (Northern Illinois University. (n.d.). Jung understood linguistic ability prompt a specific method of learning and understanding information in a way that identifies with the memories and people comprehension of them (Discover Your Personality, n.d.). After taking the Jung Personality test and reading Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, I can recognize my three strengths, how they are similar to or different from two other participants, and how these similarities and differences are important to know and understand (GCU, 2011).
Taking the Jung Typology Test truly revealed who I am as a person. This assessment test described me as being type ISTJ that translates to a strong preference of Introversion, a slight preference of Sensing, a moderate preference of Thinking over feeling, and a moderate preference of Judging over perceiving (Discover Your Personality, n.d.). The top three strengths that I acquire are being an excellent listener. This is true. I tend cautiously to take in all information and opinions and only after digesting information and then offer an attentive answer. The only downside to this is I end up taking on their problems. In addition, being a good listener makes me a good leader at work since I listen to and process the ideas of my co-workers. In addition, taking online classes as a student, this relieves the pressure of having to answer a question right away. It gives lots me extra time to think about class work. My second strength is being a good and loyal friend. Besides listening to my friend’s problems, I am there for them even with short notice to help them. Cain (2012) explained that “Introverts prefer a small circle of friends and the let them do best feel alive when they are alone. Although my friends do enjoy my company, usually I force my interaction while being out with them so not to seem socially awkward to others. Once again taking online classes relieves me of the student who likes attention and brings drama into the classroom. This kind of student that can be described as extroverts drains me. The third strengths are thinking/creativity. I never thought to daydream was actually beneficial to my well-being. While in this state I am usually making decisions and planning for things that need to be done (Discover your personality type, n.d.). The two participants who I choose have surprising similar and different results when taking the Jung Test.
After taking the Jung Type Test and two participants my daughter and friend, I was a little surprised at the similarities and the differences in our results. First, my daughter result was ISFP which stands for Introverted, Sensing, Feelin, and Perceiving. I thought her results would have concluded her personality more as an extrovert. She is more sociable than me and outgoing. Living in the world of dance, she is always engaged in a spontaneous conversation. While I am sitting to the side listening. During conversations, she never thinks before she responds. Additionally, this is her strength along with Gardner’s description of bodily-kinesthetic intelligence she is motivated than I ever was and sees the world totally different than I see the world. The only similar personality that I see is when get stressed during conversations with her peers that is too complex (Discover your personality type. (n.d.). My friend is type ESTJ he shows a similar characteristic to my personality type of ISTJ (Discover your personality type, (n.d.). Even though he shows a different personality of an extrovert of being outgoing, he is my Yin to my Yang. He knows when I am being overly stimulated and removes me from the situation. In our similarity, we both like simple conversations, but at the same time, I will listen to his thoughts and frustrations. These similarities among family, friends, or people we interact with are important to know and understand.
Understanding how these personalities interact together, how the similarities and differences are important especially in today’s sociality. For instance, helping a person who shows one or more of the intelligence explained by Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence and Jung’s Theory Personality Type test can show academic abilities in understanding one’s own personality type to help them in a bias institute as explained by Cain (2012). People will be able to observe and understand how to approach individuals who are seen as an introvert or extrovert without misinterpreting them as they try to adjust to an awkward social situation.
In closing Jung and Gardner agreed there was not just single type of personality. Jung and Gardner have an extensive variety of differences when it came to how identity is depicted . At the time Howard Gardner explained there are six different types of intelligence (Northern Illinois University. n.d.). Jung’s Theory explained that people are equipped with different lifestyles and requirements. We all have personalities that are exceptional to being human. It is what distinguishes us apart. Being an introvert or an extrovert gives us characteristics that we have in common, along with emotional intelligence we just need to learn how to perceive them.
