SOC 220 Topic 1 DQ 1
Max Points: 5.0
In studying sociology there are two different schools of thought. The first is that the sociologist should study the facts only, without the interference of personal interests or values. The other thought is that the sociologist has a responsibility to not only learn, but to help improve the lives of others. To which school of thought do you subscribe? Explain why.
My thoughts and backing at this point might not be particularly educational, however I feel that I need some back story for this and my current thoughts on this issue.
I feel that a large difference between us and any other life we know of so far is that we have specific and sometimes differeing values and interests. Animals typiicaly dont have these or at the very least dont have them to the level we do. So in my unprofessional opinion I think that as sociologists we should learn and improve the lives of others (so long as our estimation of improvment doesnt interfear with a persons chosen life style). So in essence i subscribe to the school of thought that we should study and help those we can without interfearing in someones chosen style of life if possible.
