SPE 226 Topic 1 DQ 1

Special education is educating students with special educational needs where it addresses their individual needs. Special education happens in a school setting with few students and no costs. Linguistic and cultural diversity both can impact special education. If a student or child is lacking in their communication, that does not necessarily mean they need special education. A lot of times it is because they do not speak English. Many times when students do not speak English, they will be put in a special education class however, which is not very beneficial and is unfair because that is not the issue. There are separate classes for students who do not speak English. For example, ESL (English Second Language) is a great program for those students. Students who do not speak English do not have a disorder they just need to be taught the language. Every student deserves the best education for their own individual needs.
