UNV 108 Week 6 Topic 6 Journal Entry Priorities

Priorities

Majority of people have very busy schedules, this can make it hard to make school a priority. In my personal life I try to spend as much time with my family, friends and boyfriend as possible, which can make it hard to put school first. Of course every ones first instinct is to always pick the more exciting option to do, however, that is not always the smartest idea. Ways I work around that is trying to have good time management, planning ahead, and making my schedule the week before. By doing those things, I always have time for my school work, and it always comes first. Professionally for work I’m lucky enough to be a nanny. The only obstacle I have for putting school first with work is that I can’t do it first thing in the morning. However, I am fortunate enough to overcome this obstacle by being able to do school work at work while the child is sleeping for a few hours. I can get a lot done during those hours too!

Planning out your priorities can help you be very successful. When I plan out my priorities I start with writing down everything for a week at a time, from work and school to family and friend time. I then figure out which ones are most important and then categorize by most to least important. I then write out my schedule for the week with putting the high priority ones first. No matter how busy I am, I always find time to plan out my schedule. I found this to help 100% with prioritizing my schooling and making it number one. I keep this list and schedule visible at all times so it reminds and motivates me. Lastly, you just have to make sure that you’re motivated enough to follow through with your list and priorities.

There are many strategies you can utilize to prioritize school. Time management is an important one. If you manage your time out correctly, with the most important things first, such as school, this will help make you put school first as a main priority. Another strategy that goes hand in hand with time management is planning your weekly schedule ahead of time. This allows you to make sure your priorities are right, as long as you follow the schedule you plan. Lastly, setting goals for yourself is a great strategy you can utilize to prioritize school. Setting goals for yourself, short and long term, academically keeps you motivated which makes you want to put school at the top of your priority. Prioritizing your academic responsibilities will contribute to my academic success because it will make me always put school and school work first. Putting school first and making it my main priority will make it much easier to do work on time and successfully. If I don’t prioritize my school work I end up procrastinating which never ends up well.

After reflecting on the overall learning objectives from this topic, a key take a way for me is prioritizing is a great trait to have in life. Prioritizing is especially important when it comes to school and academic success. I plan on always making school my main priority because I have set high goals for myself that I plan to reach.
