ECE 620 Topic 2 DQ 1

Explain the value of early intervention with literacy development. Share one example of how a teacher could identify when a child may need support. How would you show compassion when sharing this news with parents?

Emergent literacy instruction is most beneficial when it begins early in the preschool period because these difficulties are persistent and often affect children’s further language and literacy learning throughout the school years. Promoting literacy development, however, is not confined to young children. Older children, particularly those with speech and language impairments, may be functioning in the emergent literacy stage and require intervention aimed at establishing and strengthening these skills that are essential to learning to read and write.

You can tell a child is identifying that they need some support if they cannot attain retain information well. There are more ways you can tell by working with your students daily. I can show compassion when sharing the news with the parents by reassuring them that everything will be alright and that he/she is not alone. And offer strategies and games they can work with them at home.
