Summary of Instruction and Activities for the Lesson
How will the instruction and activities flow? Consider how the students will efficiently transition from one to the next.
How will you include developmentally appropriate instructional activities that incorporate the creative arts?
My Earth. Each child will be given a 12×18 piece of constructionpaper to make her own earth book.   The teacher will model how to make a booklet and encourage children to be creative in making their book. This activity will occur after each child returns to seat from Reading Center.
The Garden.  Each child will plant a garden in the Science Center using egg cartons and seeds. The children will have daily observation and care assignments and note all seedling growth.
Nature Walk. 
Explore neighborhood by walking to nearby park.  Children will search for recycables (contactless activity).
Protect Our Earth.  Sing-Along.  We Got the Whole World In Our HandsThe children will form three rows with five children in them. They will sing along with the video and join hands when prompted.
Roll and Color Sheet
Each child will be given a Roll and Color sheet.  A dice will be placed on the children’s table and upon prompting from the teacher, each child will roll “throw” the dice three times and color thr aligned earth globes.
Sentence Completion.  Students will build and illustrate sentences based on story with particular focus on beginning capitalization and end punctuation.

Differentiation 
What are the adaptations or modifications to the instruction/activities as determined by the student factors or individual learning needs?
The students will draw the story using the materials they are most comfortable with.
If a student requires additional support, the student can recite the story.
The students read the story and provide key details to Lola planting a garden.  Students whose vocabulary is still developing or are struggling readers may draw the story.
The students will be paired for peer support.  Teacher will modify activities and limit finds to a single category if required.
A review of numeracy and vocabulary is needed.
A review of lesson to support vocabulary building.

Instructional and Engagement Strategies
What strategies are you going to use with your students to keep them engaged throughout the unit of study?
Teacher will use art to engage and motivate.
The student will engage with hands-on by planting a garden.
With their Nature Walk buddy and engaging them to find recycleable items.
Sing along and engage students in Roll and Dice game activity
Students will complete hands-on activity by moving illustrations based on the story.
Formative Assessments/Data Collection
How are you going to measurethe learning of your students throughout the lesson?
The teacher will prompt the students and ask them to draw key details about saving the earth.  The children will “read” their earth book aloud and demonstrate their knowledge supporting key details in the book
Teacher will make notations in teacher’s journal.
The children be assigned to small groups of five students to retell the story and purpose of gardening.  The teacher will ensure full particpation by all children and prompt when necessary to obtain individual responses.
Upon return to class,teacher will ask thestudents toshare their discoveries and identify the recycable categories:reuse, recycle, reduce and the items belonging to each category: newspapers, alumnium cans, plastics, glass, food, clothes, toys.
The children will write or draw a letter to Mother Earth to state how they will help the earth.
Upon prompts, studentswill recall the items to be placed in the recycle, reusable bins as reflected in the song and retell why it is important to protect our earth.Students will opt to either write, sing, or recite their responses.
Teacher will record responses.
Students will complete sentence completion activity.  Students will pair with a buddy and share story details and one thing they would do to protect the earth.  Teacher will record responses.
Scaffolded, Cross-Disciplinary Learning Skills
How are you going to develop appropriate instruction that scaffolds learning skills and develops cross-disciplinary skills in varied contexts?
 In addition to the foundational skills: listening, speaking, writing and writing.  Students who are ESL may require additional support in vocabulary.
The students will be given extra time to work with a buddy if necessary.  Additional vocabulary support may also be given by reading parts of story.
Lesson will be reviewed if students required further support about categories.
Reduce, Recycle, Reuse chart will be available as a model.
Students will be paired for peer support. A mini-lesson on vocabulary if needed and a review of parts of video.
Story may be repeated in parts forstudents who require additional support.  Also, a vocabulary reiew will be held by teacher.
Summative, Post- Assessment
What post-assessment will measure the learning progress? Note: This can be thesame as the pre-assessment or a modified version of it.
The teacher upon prompt will query students of the key elements of story and have students share their understanding of unit theme.
