SOC 220 Topic 2 DQ 1
The United States has always been a nation of immigrants. Approximately 1 million people enter the United States each year illegally by crossing the border at Mexico. Is this flow helpful or harmful to the United States? Why?
This is a touchy discussion topic for me, I am adamant that
illegal immigration is BAD, terrible, extremely harmful for our country and I
will explain why.
First let me point out a few proven facts.
It costs tax payers (American citizens and legal
workers) more taxes
Illegal immigrants use our schools, roads, and
many other services but don’t contribute to helping maintain or rebuild them.
It raises healthcare and insurance
They often get free or government assisted
health care for emergencies and other things.
It raises automobile insuranceMany illegal immigrants don’t have automobile
insurance and if they get in a reck, well everyone’s goes up.
Beyond these issues there are a ton more behind the scenes
situations that many people may not be aware of. As a country we are failing in to many areas
right now and we need to rebuild our economy, we simply cant afford to take in
a million immigrant workers (illegal to boot) that take jobs from the working
families of legal americans immigrants or otherwise. According to http://www.infowars.com/18-facts-prove-illegal-immigration-is-absolute-nightmare-for-u-s-economy/
“It was estimated that there were approximately
7.7 million illegal aliens employed by U.S. employers during 2008” its
obviously just turned to 2016 and we have to know that that number has logicly
increased. These are jobs that aren’t paying
social security, medicade, healthcare or taxes.
More
common facts most people don’t know is that yes we did allow many immigrants
through elis island, but we charged head taxes for entry and made them legal so
they paid and contributed to the country.
Im not opposed to immigration, it’s what this country was built on, but
it needs to be legal! Also the number of
immigrants that came to elis island pales im comparison to the number who come
through every year on our southern boarder alone!
A researcher by the name of Robert Rector
states that Rector said.
“We can barely afford to do that for U.S.-born citizens and for legal immigrants,” and he also mentions that
“What, is indisputable is that undocumented immigrants right now are earning far less,
paying much less in taxes, and contributing much less to the economy than they
potentially could,”
He also mentions that if we granted them a legal status and got them paying taxes
and contributing we would see huge increases in GDP, productivity, and taxes
being paid.
