Same Sex Marriage

No matter what area of the world you come from, chances are that you have heard or experienced the challenges of various societies’ views on sexuality. In recent years same sex marriages and other sexually related issues have been under avid discussion in the United States. While I do not believe homosexuality is the only sexually related issue it is something that I am adamant about. I am of the opinion that over time same sex marriage will be allowed in the U.S. in more and more states; however I strongly disagree with this likely change in the future. The controversy in my opinion is from religious implications that same sex relations are wrong. In the early years of the US, same sex marriage was frowned upon because the country had strong routes to protestant Christianity.
Definition
For right or wrong, most of humanities existence has been managed by religious organizations and for religious purposes. Marriage, historically has involved courting, and various community and religious events to witness a wife and husband become one. Marriage usually involved a relationship between a man and a woman and gave certain rights and responsibilities to the couple. Although prostitution has been recorded for thousands of years, and there are records of homosexual acts in the early ages, marriage has to my knowledge always been between a man and woman. In the past it was an asset to have a man and wife and the children that would come from that to work and build a home to survive. Ultimately I feel that same sex marriage advocates are trying to override decades of traditions in regards to marriage as we know it. Politically it is likely that the government and other companies do not want to give out benefits to married partners of the same sex, there are political positions from governeing a persons rights to allowing them to choose. However while I believe in choice there are rules in life and as a believer in G-d I know that he does not want us to be homosexual, it can even be argued that it is not beneficial to our evolutionary stand point if you believe in evolution.
Importance
The social issue to me about same sex marriage comes to mind when I think of procreation, the most important part in civilization and human history about marriage has been the procreation that usually comes from a heterosexual marriage. Could it be argued that two men or two women want to live their lives together, sure? However most people would likely agree that they shouldn’t be allowed to raise children, it’s not only unnatural, but it’s often considered immoral.
Religion
Religion states that homosexuality is wrong, and thus same sex marriage is wrong, why is this important? Same sex marriage is a disservice to social progress and deters a bloodline from going forward in the future, it is in the case of men usually considered unhealthy and in the case of religion it is considered unclean and immoral. G-d destroyed many people according to Jewish and Christian records, where he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah,
“24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.”
The quote above from Genesis 19 24 and 25 show that the cities where destroyed, and if you read the previous chapters it’s all as a result from the sodomy and wickedness coming from those cities.
Morality
I realize that homosexual people feel that they deserve to be allowed to be married, I won’t argue American standard and the right to be free and to pursue life, liberty and so on, but in the video I watched from the gcu library there are advocates that say being gay is immoral, and G-d agrees with this. He will forgive, but fact is he destroyed entire cities to stop these acts (Gay Rights, Marriage, and the Supreme Court).
“And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.”
As the bible states the visitors were nearly assaulted in Sodom and that oddly enough seems to be were Sodomy comes from. I don’t feel that homosexual acts are ok, moral, or legitimate. I am strongly religious and try to follow the bible and G-d as best as I can, although we have forgiveness because of our messiahs sacrifice, I believe that people should attempt to strive to refrain from evil acts even if it is something they like. I might like prostitution or pornography, but to follow G-d and to be a good and responsible citizen means to refrain from the acts I know to be wrong.
Conclusion
In conclusion being homosexual or heterosexual doesn’t matter, the argument isn’t that a person is born that way or not, it’s simply what’s good and bad, immoral or moral. I think that being homosexual is immoral as I have stated from my religious views, and I think it’s a disservice to society. There aren’t any real “solutions” to this course other than allow people choice or don’t. If these individuals choose to cut their bloodlines from any potential future I don’t have an issue with that, but I don’t agree with them imposing their beliefs or changes on society about how marriage should be. Homosexual marriages don’t help society in any way, and thus I strongly disagree with them, I also think that has led to my ultimate point of what society has had so much controversy about same sex marriages.
