Evidence based research interview

Introduction

Evidence based research study makes use of the critical thinking, analysis of critical information and evaluation of it. In the healthcare sector, this is of great use and importance. The target group in the community is given the treatment by the researchers which are effective and professional and this is done by using the research studies. In the evidence based research study, the personal experience of the practitioner is considered along with his expertise in the field. The clients have some kind of expectations and values which are also considered in this research study along with the best evidence that are used to know the best treatment approach. Since the process of critical thinking and evaluation of critical information is done in the evidence based research study so in case of medical disorders, the medical practitioners are able to provide approach which is most effective (Roberts & Yeager, 2004). While making the research in the evidence based research study, the values and evidence of the patient are considered along with the personal experience and expertise in the field of the practitioner. It is essential for the researchers to know whether the treatment will be effective or not before the best treatment approaches are selected and this can be done by them by carrying the evidence based research studies. Each of the patients has its own values which should be considered by the medical practitioners in the research. The medical practitioner has its own skills and education which are said to be his/her clinical expertise. The previous researchers must have done some medical research studies which should be considered by the medical practitioners as well. Once the research findings of the other researchers are combined with the personal research findings then a conclusive study findings can be known by the researchers which will be of great use (Roberts& Yeager,2004).

The changes that the health care leader has been involved in implementing

A research study is said to be evidence based due to presence of some components and these are described by the medical health expert in the interview. The medical practitioner described that there are six main steps in the evidence based research study. Out of all, the first step is to know and analyze the problem that is being faced by the patients. By doing so it is possible for the medical practitioner to know about the clinical problem or question and thus, it can be used later on in the research study. One of the major public issues that is of great concern these days is childhood obesity. Children are getting obese at as high rate and this has to be taken care of. The intervention treatment and programs regarding this need improvement and the health care leader takes care that improvement has been made in this context. The childhood obesity is also becoming common in other areas of world and lot many cases are reported related to this. Medical practitioner are taking this issue seriously and trying to know the main cause of this problem. Now the condition has come where the children should be made free of obesity and for this medical practitioner are trying to implement intervention programs and treatment. There are many factors that led to obesity in children. One of the major causes is the imbalance between the utilization of calories in the body and the intake of it. Other causes are genetic factors and environmental factors. When the child becomes obese, there are many health problems which arise in him/her and the child also has to suffer from physical and emotional abuse. This leads to deterioration of the development of the child. Thus the health as well as the livelihood of the children had to be improved which can be done by implementation of treatment and intervention strategies by the medical practitioner.

The health care leaders are the ones that are on top position in the medical field and they feel that childhood obesity is not treated properly as there is scarcity of adequate intervention strategies and treatment programs. Due to this, many changes are done in the clinical settings by the health care leader along with medical practitioners so that cases of childhood obesity are tackled properly and adequately. These changes are suggested by the health care leader and implemented as well. Changes in the planning and commissioning services are implemented by the health care leader while handling the cases of obesity in children. The childhood obesity can be dealt effectively by a specific program which is developed by the health care leader who also has made changes in weight management program and lifestyle program which give consideration to the needs of the individual patient. It is even better while treating to consider each patients as individual ones. No one should be given treatment based on the symptoms of other one. The problems related to childhood obesity should be made aware to everyone and the health care leader has taken steps to do this. This is made especially for the parents so that they take proper steps in preventing their children from obesity. Childhood obesity is also impacts social and healthy life of the patients in a negative way and this is shown by the leader. In the clinical setting, cases of obesity have to be tackled by the staff members and for this they should be given training. In the training, topics on obesity, causes and treatment should be included. The way in which obesity cases are handled by the medical staff has undergone changes which are implemented by the leader. When the child becomes obese, he/she needs to lose excess weight and this has to be done without any risks or danger to the child. This is done as changes are implemented by the leader. Along with this, evaluation programs are implemented as supervision is considered important by the leader. Under this programs, evaluation of the current programs are done so that its effectiveness can be known and also it is possible to know about the requirement of improvement (Roberts & Yeager, 2004).

How strong did the leader feel the research on the topic was? Why?

The medical health leaders believe that the social life of the obese patient is spoiled due to obesity and so the research topic is considered important by the medical health leader. There can be some dangerous health complications due to obesity like musculoskeletal disorders and cardiovascular diseases. The obese patient is more prone to get some of the cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke. Arthritis and cancer are some of the musculoskeletal disorders which are common in obesity patients. To prevent all such kinds of complications, efficient and scientific treatment of obesity is considered important and essential by the medical health leader. Child should have control on the weight so that they have a normal BMI or Body mass index. This is ensured by therapeutic interventions. Also, the intervention programs and treatment implemented in controlling and treating obesity should be safe so that the patient does not have any kind of complications. The acute and chronic cases should be treated differently and patient should be given attention individually. While treating obesity, along with the health care leader, involvement of professionals of other fields is also required like that of psychology. So this is also the reason that the issue of obesity is considered important by the health care leader. Obesity may be due to uncontrolled and unusual eating habits and this is considered under psychological problems. So, psychiatrists should be consulted by the medical practitioners while treating obesity patients. It may be seen that obese patients have low self-esteem and depression and thus, psychiatrists should be consulted. The psychological problems in children can be tackled by psychiatrists and psychologists. So the cause of obesity can be known by the medical practitioners by working with these two professionals. Thus, it is indicated by the medical health leader that decreasing the cases of obesity in children is a common goal of doctors and other professionals and so they should work together in achieving this. By doing so it would be possible for them to ensure that there is no negative impact on the social life of the patient.

Have they ever rejected research findings? Why or why not?

In all these years, medicine is practiced by the health care leader and they have came across many research findings. But these are not considered to be effective as no conclusions are drawn from such findings. It is believed by the health care leader that a group of experts need to review the research findings and evaluate the contents of them. This is because the experts have the knowledge about the findings of the research and so they have to be made authorities in the field. By doing it is possible to find the relevancy of the content material in the research findings regarding the subject matter that is being discussed in the findings. An academic journal is used to publish the research findings after it has been reviewed properly. While reviewing the findings by the medical health leader, attempts are made to approve only those that are scientific. Rest all are rejected by them mainly because these are rejected by the board of experts. At the time of research findings, a particular methodology is used to get the information and it is essential that the research findings have description of this methodology in detail. This is ensured by the health care leader (Roberts & Yeager, 2004). A research finding is said to be scientific if the methodology is strong and have efficient and accurate research results. If these criteria are not fulfilled then the research findings are not considered to be scientific.

Concerns and resistance when implementing changes

The health leader is concerned about one thing and that is absence of enough resources for research. While conducting the research which is detailed and conclusive, it is important to have enough monetary resources by the leader. A research cannot be conducted effectively if enough resources are not there with the leader. Childhood obesity is one of the important national and global issues and so it is believed by the leader that private organizations and government should give full support for research and research findings by providing enough resources. It is seen that some of the clinical settings are not ready to accept changes and this is the main resistance which is faced by the health care leader. But the health care leader can make clinical settings accept this change in medical approach by convincing them and explaining them about the importance of current changes. Also it is required to make them realize that these changes are far much better that the old programs and the outcomes will be quite satisfactory and important (Roberts & Yeager, 2004).

Analysis

A health care leader is interviewed by me and I came to know the importance of the evidence based research findings. A hypothesis can be supported or rejected by the health care leader by making use of evidence. By the help of evidence based research study, scientific and effective approaches can be used by the clinical settings so that results can be obtained and thus, this study is considered to be important.
