Discuss some areas on which you hold biases (divorce, domestic violence, death penalty). Biases can be personal or professional in nature. Confronting biases can help to overcome them. What are your personal/professional biases? What harm can result from not being aware of them? What standards are violated if they are not acknowledged and addressed?

Answer:

I am not totally bias to alot of issues but I can honestly say that I am bias against death penalty for many reasons most reasons come from my spiritual beliefs. I was always that taught man has no right to do Gods job no matter what they have done, criminally and I feel like, the death penalty is like punishing someone because the authorities has the power to do so.God gives life and takes life no other entity or human being should take Gods power by taking a humans life. Whatever the crime or wrong doing God will punish accordingly. I agree that biases can be both personal and professionally in nature because of the indiviuals personal beliefs and this is not healthy both mentally, ethically, and from a professional point of view. I think that all biases can be overcome by confronting them in a respectable professional manner, by doing so the most important obvious thing to do would be to admit to their biases and seek professional help in doing so this may and will help you to better understand your personal biases. My professional biases would be someone with little or less education than I but is getting a much higher salary than me I feel like that would be a major insult to me, and believe or not this happens often in the work place. Not being aware of your professional and personal biases could result in loss of job the risk of being demoted and in some cases may even result in criminal behavior. The most serious penalties would be reprimand, stipulated resignation, expulsion, and censure. The standards that would be viloated if not acknowledged and addressed are standard 3.6 and 3.1 they are the most important standards to me associated with biases that the psychologist may have with the client, that also may affect the psychologist ability to do their job properly.
