Website Review and Summary
A diagnosis of asthma causes fear and anxiety of experiencing the inability to breathe and the need for emergency treatment. Asthma is most often induced by a bronchial spasm, which causes the breathing passage to become constricted, thereby, reducing the amount of oxygen arriving into the lungs. In extreme cases a bronchial spasm and the lack of oxygen can lead to death. Asthma symptoms can be reduced through quality health care management and removing triggers from the sufferers environment. “Asthma self-management education is essential to providing patients with the skills necessary to control asthma and improve outcomes” (American Lung Association, 2009, p. 23).
