I was the sender in this instance.
Who was the receiver?
The receiver was my trainee, Blake
What was the message?
The message was to complete an inspection of the Technical Order Manuals with the Technical Order Account Manager.
What channel was used to send the message?
The channel was verbal face to face communication.
What was the misunderstanding that occurred?
The misunderstanding was that Blake thought that I just wanted the inspection accomplished. The point of my message was for him to accomplish the inspection with the Account Manager, learning what is inspected so he knows what to look for in the future.
How could the misunderstanding be avoided in the future?
I think that after talking with Blake, the misunderstanding could have been avoided if it was delivered through a different channel such as writing down the message. I have also learned to get more feedback when communicating with Blake.

The sender was another section’s Flight Chief who is a peer.

The receiver was a subordinate to me.
What was the message?
The message was that we were not allowed to trouble shoot their system anymore.
